A 35-year-old woman came to see me.
She had no pain. No heavy periods. No cramps. Her only concern was a growing abdomen. Ultrasound showed a large fibroid, about 12 cm, almost the size of a grapefruit. MRI confirmed it.
Treatment choice
For fibroids this size, I often suggest surgery. But she was not planning pregnancy.
So she chose HIFU. The treatment was not easy because of mixed echogenicity, but the MRI showed good ablation.

Result
The fibroid kept shrinking over time. Her uterus reduced from 18 weeks size to 14 weeks size. She avoided surgery and feels well.
Key message
Not all large fibroids need surgery. In the right patient, HIFU works safely and steadily.
